CONTACT

(Poem, Mural, Performance, 2022-23)

This project was a piece that was commissioned by Contact Theatre, in which I spent 50 hours living in the theatre without leaving. I lived within the public theatre, eating cereal amongst the red theatre seats, brushing my teeth in the public toilets amongst guests, napping in the cafe as a live art piece for residents.

At the end of the 50 hours, wrote a poem about my experience, as well as about my relationship as a young person that has found a community at Contact. I wrote the piece about the moment when realise an experience you thought you were having alone is actually shared with people. I think this is a basis of a lot of beautiful human connection, or, for lack of a better word, contact.

The piece was added to the Theatre as a mural on the walls, released as a video performance, and read at Contact’s 50th Birthday event, as well as a closing event at their In Conversation event.
